2016 NAIDOC Week celebrations are happening around the country in July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities that support your local community. Find an event near you from the NAIDOC Events Calendar. NAIDOC Week is celebrated not just in our Indigenous communities but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, community organisations, local councils, workplaces, schools and sporting groups.

The Indigenous Procurement Policy training programme is run by the First Australians Chamber of Commerce.

The First Australians Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI) is running Indigenous Procurement Policy training sessions for Indigenous businesses. Running until the end of June, the training is for Indigenous business owners, Indigenous chambers of commerce and representatives from community organisations. Government officers with an interest in the Indigenous Procurement Policy are also encouraged to attend.

The Working on Country Photography Competition showcases the important work of Indigenous ranger and Indigenous Protected Area groups by inviting them to share their stories visually. This year there were more than 250 entries, with the images crafting a vivid story about Indigenous land and sea management. Three Indigenous judges with a background in photography and conservation management had the difficult task of shortlisting 40 photos, which will be displayed at the Australian National Botanic Gardens from 15 June - 10 July.

Yuendumu has a new community store, which means more fresh fruit and vegetables for locals. The store opened on 1 June and can stock fresh fruit and vegetables for longer periods of time, providing a greater range of healthy food options in the community. The Yuendumu Women’s Centre Aboriginal Corporation worked with the building contractor, Asbuild (NT) Pty Ltd, to build the new store to replace the old facilities. Local Indigenous workers were also employed to work with the building contractor, to construct the store.
