The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, will host a workshop with the leaders of key Indigenous organisations that signed the Redfern Statement. The workshop, to be held in coming weeks, will build on the Government’s reforms over the past three years and provide a valuable opportunity for Indigenous leaders who represent a range of sectors to come together with the Minister to hold strategic discussions about ways engagement within Indigenous Affairs can be further strengthened.

Three Indigenous young adults at the National Library of Australia work to preserve Indigenous history and culture while recognising their critical role in making it accessible to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This year the Australian Army celebrates the 20th anniversary of providing support to remote Indigenous communities through the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Programme (AACAP). AACAP is a collaborative partnership between the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, which provides up to $6 million per project, and the Australian Army, which contributes personnel and equipment to complete the works.

Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, today joined the Gurindji people, traditional owners of country, and Northern Territory Land Council representatives in Kalkarindji to mark the 50th anniversary of the historic Wave Hill Walk Off.

Minister Scullion paid tribute to the strong Gurindji people, particularly Vincent Lingiari, for the courage they took in standing up for their people and their country.

"The Wave Hill Walk Off has long been acknowledged as a watershed moment in the journey to the recognition of land rights in Australia," Minister Scullion said.

A study into the prevalence of petrol sniffing in selected Indigenous communities revealed sniffing continued to decline between 2011 and 2014. Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said today the downward trend coincided with Coalition Government’s continued roll out of low aromatic unleaded fuel in areas affected by petrol sniffing.

A native title claim covering approximately 20,000 square kilometres in the south-east Kimberley region of Western Australia has been finalised today with the Federal Court recognising native title on Ngurra Kayanta country. Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said the court’s determination at Jalyirr (located within the claim area) was a great result for the Ngurra Kayanta people and their legal representative, Central Desert Native Title Services, and recognised the hard work of everyone involved.

Two long-running native title claims covering land in the Northern Territory town of Borroloola have been resolved at a historic on-country sitting of the Federal Court today. Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said the determination recognised exclusive possession over vacant crown land as well as rights to take and use resources for any purpose, including commercial opportunities. “This is a great result for the Rrumburriya Borroloola people who have made history today.
