The first two Indigenous Learning on Country students recently graduated at a Batchelor Institute award ceremony held in Yirrkala, North East Arnhem Land.
The Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Centre in Yirrkala community, Northern Territory is one of the largest and most successful art centres in Australia. Representing more than 300 Yolngu artists from the Yirrkala community and surrounding homelands, the centre continues to send art throughout Australia and the world.

The Yolngu people live in the north east Arnhem Land region of Northern Territory, 600 kilometres east of Darwin. Covering an area of more than 40,000 square kilometres, it is a place that many different clan groups call home.
Like many communities in the Northern Territory, Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land has its own Indigenous Engagement Officer (IEO).
Almost 50 years ago, the Yolngu people of Yirrkala in Arnhem Land sent two bark petitions framed by traditional ochre paintings of clan designs to the Australian House of Representatives.
