Kuuk Thaayorre is the predominant language spoken in Pormpuraaw however a variety of Kugu or Wik languages and English are also spoken in this region.

The Pormpuraaw community on the Cape York Peninsula is set to receive a new independent living facility, alongside other infrastructure and training as part of the 46th Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program (AACAP).

To coincide with World Health Day, Apunipima Cape York Health Council recently held a gathering in the remote community of Pormpuraaw, Cape York to educate women on how they can be part of prevention and management of diabetes, the chronic disease prevalent in Cape York communities.
