The Balranald - Wentworth - Surrounds area is in far western New South Wales, sharing borders with South Australia and Victoria.

It features the Willandra Lakes region, which is the traditional meeting place of the Mutthi Mutthi, Ngiyampaa and Barkinji Aboriginal tribes.

The Willandra Lakes region is one of 15 World Heritage places included in the National Heritage List. Lake Mungo is one of 17 lakes in the amazing Willandra Lakes region.  Aboriginal people lived on the shores of the lakes for at least 50,000 years.
